Plumbing the Depths

For this you will need:
1 government without ethics
1 sympathetic tabloid newspaper
2 agreeable policiticians (an increasingly common sight, here's one from yesterday.)
1 Anne Widdecombe
2 vulnerable and easily exploited grieving relatives of victims of the London bombings.

Stir together until ready to serve on the front page of today's Scum:
BANG 'EM UP!
7/7 mum urges MPs to back Blair on terror law
The associated editorial, Victory for TERROR, has the detailed recipe. Warning: reading may cause extreme nausea.

I suspect there's no need to labour the point; it's wrong on so many levels. It is a sorry state of affairs.

Readers from oversees may not be aware of it but the Scum is the UK's best selling newspaper, and by quite a margin if I remember rightly. This, on its own, is a dispiriting state of affairs. The Scum is part of Rupert Murdoch's media empire, along with Fox News, Sky News, and any number of other subsidiaries. Murdoch and Blair have always had an unhealthy relationship. I think a new low has been reached today though.

Btw, the Sun refers to a YouGov poll for Sky TV which shows that 72% of voters support the 90 day proposal. The Bagged Bear also mentioned it in a comment on another post. I suspect the poll isn't far off the mark but who thought it was a good idea to ask for the opinions of the great unwashed? God, I hate the proles...
Yes, anyway, joking aside I probably will write something about the poll later on today.
