US Cotton Subsidies

No Surprises

The WTO has ruled that the US is illegally subsidising it's cotton farmers. The BBC reported the story on Friday 4th March: US must act quickly on cotton

I hope that the US government do act quickly on this but I'm not optimistic.

In the spirit of fairness I should also say that the member states of the EU are equally guilty of subsidising agriculture to the detrement of farmers in developing countries. The US cotton subsidies are just one more example of how rich countries stay rich.
